My name is Brooke Fuller and I am the
founder of Putting on Baby, and one of the moms behind the
Mei-la Wrap. When my first daughter Aislynn (now 2 and a
half) was a few months old, I found her to be too big and
too uncomfortable to be carried around in a certain popular
front facing carrier. I started researching, planning,
creating, and sewing my way into more practical ways to
carry my baby and bond with her at the same time. I learned
from experienced babywearers and seamstresses, followed
their advice, and created my ideal carrier. My goal was to create a product that combined elements of two of my favorite carriers, a mei tai and a wrap. I liked the security, structure, and ease found in a mei-tai. But I also liked the comfort and feel of a wrap. I have never been known as someone who can pick just one favorite! So I thought, “Why not have the best of both worlds?” I combined the structure and style found in a mei-tai, with the comfort and versatility found in a wrap. Of all its characteristics, my favorite thing about the Mei-la wrap is its versatility. The Mei-la wrap can be tied to reflect a mei-tai style, wrap style, or simply be worn on one hip-side carry; ideal for a mom who needs some hands free time and wants some flexibility and adaptability with her carrier. The Mei-la Wrap made its debut at the International Babywearing Conference in Chicago. We at Putting on Baby are excited to move forward with the Mei la Wrap in the fall of 2008.
